Description

Sulfur-yellow tinder (Laetiporus sulphureus) Sulfur-yellow tinder or sulfur-yellow tinder (Laetiporus sulphureus) is a mushroom from the Fomitopsidaceae family. The local name is Kulina. Caps are loose-fleshy, 10-40 cm in diameter, 1-4 cm thick, semicircular, in shingle groups, orange- or sulfur-yellow, often with a pink tint, later fading to a yellowish color, with a smooth, occasionally bent, later wavy edge . The hymenophore is tubular, sulfur-yellow, pores are small. Spores are broadly elliptical or ovoid, 5-7 X 3.5-5 μm, colorless or pale yellow. The pulp is soft, fleshy, yellowish or white. Young fruiting bodies are edible and have a specific taste. Used fresh. The mushroom contains antibiotic substances.
